We recently had the opportunity to partner with Little Friends Learning Loft in Newburgh, NY, for a dynamic after school skateboard clinic. The event was a powerful demonstration of community, energy, and the pure joy of learning something new. We successfully introduced a group of enthusiastic children to the fundamentals of skateboarding, and the experience reinforced our commitment to making skateboarding accessible to everyone.
Building a Foundation of Safety and Fun
Our session began with a clear priority: safety first. Before anyone stepped on a board, we ensured every student was properly equipped with a full set of safety gear, including helmets and pads. We provided all the necessary high quality equipment to ensure a smooth learning experience, from the skateboards themselves to the safety gear, removing any barriers to participation.

Once everyone was geared up, we led the group through a series of essential stretches. Proper warm-ups are crucial in skateboarding to prepare the body for new movements and prevent injuries.
With everyone ready, we transitioned to the core of the clinic: the fundamentals. Our instructors guided the students through the basics, starting with how to stand on the board, find their balance, and take those important first pushes. It was incredible to witness children who had never been on a skateboard before begin to move with newfound confidence.
To cap off the lesson, we introduced a fun and engaging activity: skate limbo! This game was the perfect way to apply the new skills of balance and board control in a playful, low-pressure environment.
Community Collaboration at its Best
We extend our sincere gratitude to Little Friends Learning Loft for providing the space and opportunity to host this after school skateboard clinic. Their dedication to offering enriching experiences for children is truly commendable, and we were honored to collaborate with them.
A special thank you also goes out to Newburgh EMS, who were on-site to ensure a safe environment for everyone. They also joined in on the fun!
The Future of Skateboarding as an After School Activity
This clinic was more than just a one-time event; it was a step toward a larger goal. At Connect Skateboarding, we are passionate about normalizing skateboarding as a standard after school activity. It offers a unique combination of physical exercise, mental focus, creative expression, and personal resilience. The skills learned on a skateboard are valuable life lessons. We are excited to build on this success and bring skateboarding to more communities, schools, and after school programs. Thank you to everyone who participated and supported this fantastic day!
